This manual is designed to be used by campus-community partnerships of youth programs and colleges interested in working together to empower youth of the community to embark on a college/career path. It describes how the partnership can carry out college and career workshops in their community.
Based on a Campus-Community Partnership Model that was developed with the support of Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) funds mentioned in the introduction, this manual comes out of the experiences of a three-year dynamic partnership between community programs in Holyoke and local colleges and universities. This approach recognizes the value that diverse viewpoints and resources offer, and emphasizes how program staff and youth, college staff and students can all work together to strengthen communities and to enhance the learning experience of the students.
The workbook is meant to actively engage the user in the workshop design process, rather than to simply
follow prescribed steps. Taking ownership of the process and the design will create more dynamic and effective workshops. This approach also allows the users to customize the workshop series to fit their particular needs and their community.
This section provides a series of sample workshops. They can be used as examples to assist with designing your own workshops or as an “off the shelf” series to try out. The series is designed to work together to address the core elements and primary outcomes that have been described in the workbook. Each sample workshop includes a workshop agenda which describes the exercises and activities of the workshop and also includes sample worksheets. ![]()
